Two alumni in Athens, Ohio
Jackie O's was founded in 2005 by Brad Clark and Art Oestrike, both alumni of Ohio University in Athens. The name is a tribute to the Irish brewpub that previously occupied the building, and to Oestrike's mother Jackie, who died shortly after the purchase. Oestrike is the owner, Clark is the head brewer.
The first location had two fermentors and came to about 300 barrels a year. In 2009 the brewery took over the neighbouring bar, the Public House, with a larger kitchen and room for more brewing capacity. Production rose to 800 barrels. In 2013 a second location in Athens followed, mainly meant as a production facility, which took output to 3,200 barrels a year. From 2013 to 2017 they grew by more than 20% a year.
On its own website, Jackie O's calls itself a family business and independent. Besides the taproom and brewery in Athens, there are a brewpub, a public house and a location in Columbus.
A broad beer and barrel program
Wikipedia lists Mystic Mama (IPA), Chomolungma (brown ale), Firefly (amber ale), Razz Wheat and Hop Ryot (rye IPA) among the active beers. The website also shows, for example, Barking Pumpkin at 8.5%, the saison Bernarda with a mixed culture, the sour Perpetum based on their own house culture, and hazy IPAs in the Brown Bag series.
They describe their barrel program themselves as diverse and adventurous. It produces, for example, Bourbon Barrel Dark Apparition Reserve, a barrel aged imperial stout at 12.8%. According to Wikipedia, they put the emphasis in their business operations on the local community: buying local food and using renewable energy.

With us it is all about the heavy stuff: mainly stouts, plus barleywines and an IPA. The strength is between 11 and 16% and the beers come in 35.5 cl bottles. On Untappd, Barlow, Double Barrel Temple of Minerva, Prodigality, XX Anniversary Blend, Time Beyond Time and Vanilla Coffee Bourbon Barrel Dark Apparition, among others, are highly rated.
Drink the stouts and barleywines slowly and not too cold. After they come out of the fridge, let them warm up a little so the vanilla, the coffee and the wood of the barrel come through better. At this strength a small glass works well, and sharing with a second person is fine. The IPA you drink cool and as fresh as possible.
