A beer shop that got out of hand
Hoptimaal is a specialty beer shop and webshop at Leeghwater 5 in Amersfoort-Vathorst. What started as a single shop in December 2018 became a place with its own pub, its own beer and its own beer festival.

December 2018
Hoptimaal
After six years of running various webshops, Tjapco got the now legendary question from his father: 'Why don't you open a beer shop?' Three months later he had the key, and a month after that the door opened. On Saturday 1 December 2018 at 10:00, Hoptimaal opened in the Vathorst shopping centre.

October 2021
Tjaps
During a beer trip in England, the idea for our own pub was born. The bank pulled out during the coronavirus period, but with a crowdfunding campaign the money was there within four weeks. That's how Tjaps came about, with a full kitchen and 23 taps, along with a renewed Hoptimaal.

2022 to now
VAT'33
While looking for a witbier for the tap at Tjaps, Ruud, brewer and owner of Eembier, offered to brew one for us. That's how our first own beer, Keiwit, came about, and with it VAT'33. We brew at Rock City in Amersfoort; you drink VAT'33 at Tjaps and buy it at Hoptimaal.

Every summer
Taphorst
Taphorst is our own beer festival, on the square in front of Hoptimaal and Tjaps: brewers from the Netherlands and abroad, food and music. The fifth edition is in June 2027.
