Meer over Imperial stout
Which imperial stout are you looking for?
- American: more bitter, more roasted and with more hop aroma.
- English: with a richer, more complex malt character, often towards toffee or caramel.
- Barrel-aged: imperial stouts aged in bourbon or other barrels can also be found under barrel aged.
Sweet and dessert-like? Take a look at the pastry stouts. You can read where the name 'imperial' really comes from in the Beer School on imperial stout.
Serving and storing
A good starting point is 10–13 °C in a cognac glass. Imperial stout can age well: store it cool and dark, upright (with a cork: on its side).
