An independent brewery from Hernani
Basqueland Brewing is based in Hernani, in the Basque Country in Spain. On LinkedIn, the brewery describes itself as craftsmen, pioneers and independent. Kevin Patricio is listed there as co-founder and CEO.
In September 2023, Basqueland Brewing celebrated its eighth anniversary, with a party, a series of anniversary beers and presentations in various places in Spain and Europe. An ELLE article that the brewery shared itself describes how a few North Americans made one of the best craft beers in Spain here. We have not been able to establish more about the early years.
Beer on the level of Basque cuisine
The brewery's starting point is making beer that suits Basque culinary culture. They also call themselves ambassadors of the Basque community in Europe and the rest of the world, and say they want to set a good example as craftsmen and good citizens.
The range we know from them is clearly hoppy. The IPA is the main style, supplemented by a pale ale, a stout, a lager and a sour beer. On Untappd, Basajaun - 11th Anniversary, Boyicao, Hall of Fame, Sugaar 2026, Dire Wolf and Marciano, among others, are highly rated.
Basqueland Brewing at Hoptimaal
At Hoptimaal, you'll find Basqueland Brewing mostly in 44 cl, with a few beers in 33 cl as well. The strength ranges from 4.9 to 12.5%, so there is something for an ordinary evening as well as something for a slow glass.
Drink the IPAs and the pale ale as fresh as possible and properly cold, so the hops stay sharp. If a beer is heavier, or an anniversary edition with a lot of alcohol, give it more time. Let it warm up a little after taking it out of the fridge and drink it in smaller sips, and more flavour comes out. The highest-rated beers change with each delivery.
