How Ārpus started in Latvia
Ārpus Brewing Co. was founded in 2017 by craft beer geeks and enthusiastic homebrewers from Latvia. The sources we have say little more about the founders or the brewing setup, so we stick to that core.
The name comes from Latvian. According to the brewery, the meaning fits their beers: outside of the box, beyond the mass-produced light and dark lagers. These are beers with overwhelming flavours and aromas, meant for drinkers who dare to step out of their comfort zone.
Hop- and fruit-driven beer
A Danish beer shop describes Ārpus as a brewer of hop- and fruit-driven beer, on bottle and keg. The range includes double dry-hopped IPAs with Galaxy and Vic Secret and a gose with pink Himalayan salt, blackcurrants, raspberries and blackberries. There is also a Triple Fruit Sour Ale.
The most striking one is the TDH Australia 19, a triple dry-hopped double IPA brewed only with Australian hops: Galaxy, Enigma and Vic Secret from that year's harvest. The source mentions aromas of peach, tropical fruit and citrus.
Ārpus Brewing Co. at Hoptimaal
We have already carried 22 Ārpus beers, 8 of which are in stock now. They are mostly IPAs and sour beers (nine of each), plus three stouts and a lager or pilsner. Everything comes in 44 cl and the strength ranges from 0.5 to 13.5%.
Highly rated on Untappd are the Ārpus Port Wine X Brandy Barrel Aged Imperial Stout and a series of smoothie sours with combinations such as mango, apricot, pineapple and vanilla.
Drink the IPAs and sours as fresh as possible and cold, around 6 to 8 °C. The smoothie sours work well from a small glass. Let the barrel aged stout warm up slowly to about 12 °C, so the flavours can open up.
