Frontaal Brewing Co. is an independent craft brewery from Breda, founded in 2015. They started in a shipping container and now brew in a new brewery at The Bay. Under the motto Beer for Thought they make New England IPAs, sour Smoothie Sours and alcohol-free beer, among other things. At Hoptimaal you'll mainly find sour beers and IPAs.

From shipping container to The Bay
Frontaal Brewing Company was founded in 2015. After years of searching for flavors and aromas, the founders taught themselves how to brew. They started in a shipping container at STEK, the creative heart of Breda, and then moved to the Faam, an old candy factory.
In 2023 they moved on to The Bay in Breda, with a fully automatic ROLEC brewing system of 60 hectoliters. The brewery kept investing after that: in 2024 it got its own pasteurization system, so they can make Smoothie Sours and alcohol-free beers themselves. The CFT canning line fills 15,000 cans per hour, and the brewery also brews and cans for others. According to Ferment, the ambition is to become the largest independent brewery in the Netherlands, with the support of more than 6,000 investors.

Beer for Thought as a starting point
Frontaal brews by the motto Beer for Thought: beer with flavors, colors and aromas that make you think. Every year they make more than 48 specials and 12 barrel aged beers, and they say they make no compromises on quality.
They name innovation, balance, creativity and transparency themselves, except for the clarity of some of their beers. You can see that in the range. Juice Punch is a New England IPA, and there is an alcohol-free version (Juice Punch 0.5) and a Double Juice Punch. They also brew more classic styles, such as a tripel, a witbier (Belgian white beer) called Witte Simmie, and a blond (Blonde Simmie). For the Smooth Criminals series, Frontaal works with illustrator Maaike Canne.
Through the Beer Club you get a box of nine beers delivered to your door every other month.
Frontaal Brewing Co. at Hoptimaal
So far we have had 18 beers from Frontaal Brewing Co. at Hoptimaal, 10 of which are in stock. The focus is on sour beer and IPA, complemented by tripel, bock, blond, witbier and pale ale. Most beers are 33 cl, a few are 44 cl. The strength ranges from 0.5 to 8.5%. Highly rated on Untappd are the beers from the Smooth Criminals series, For the Love of Hops (Hoppy People), Burning Bridges and Juice Punch, among others.
Drink the hoppy beers and the sour beers as fresh as possible and cool from the fridge, so they keep their fruit and hops. The stronger beers, such as the tripel, can be taken more slowly and a few degrees warmer.
