A brewery in Saint Louis
Side Project Brewing is based in Saint Louis, Missouri, and is listed on Untappd as a microbrewery. Our sources say nothing about the founders or the year it started, so we leave that out rather than make something up.
The city does have a long beer history. According to STLBEER, there were more than a hundred breweries in and around Saint Louis over two centuries, from small outfits that lasted only a few years to national giants. Hop Culture lists Side Project in a guide to the city as a brewery that attracts a lot of attention.
Barrel-aged beers and blends
The brewery's webshop describes its range as artisanal creations, from barrel-aged collaborations to blends. The range includes Threnody I, a barleywine, and Threnody II, a stout. Both are collaborations with The Veil.
You also see beers with French names that point to blending: à la Table Blend #5, Bière Blanche Blend #5, Bière du Pays and Coeur de Cuvée Blend #13. Black & Wild 2025 and Bramble 2025 are in the list as well.
The site also announces an annual release: Beer : Barrel : Time 2026, online on Sunday 1 November at 10:00 a.m. Central Time. In early November the brewery is also celebrating twelve years of the Side Project Cellar.
Side Project Brewing at Hoptimaal
So far we have had one beer from Side Project: a saison in a 75 cl bottle, with 5% alcohol. On Untappd, Side Project La Ruche (10 Year) is the highest rated. Nothing is in stock at the moment.
A saison is best drunk cool, but not ice cold, so the fruity and spicy side comes forward. The 75 cl bottle is made for sharing. Pour it into a wine glass or tulip glass and give the beer a moment to open up.
