From Les 3 Fourquets to Brasserie Lupulus
Brasserie Lupulus started in 2003 under the name Les 3 Fourquets, in Courtil in the municipality of Gouvy, in the Belgian Ardennes. The brewery was set up to supply malt drinks in kegs to the inn next door.
In 2007 Pierre Gobron and his sons Julien and Tim developed the beer Lupulus. It was first sold in champagne-style bottles and in kegs. In 2016 the beer gave its name to the brewery: Les 3 Fourquets became Brasserie Lupulus.
The brewery is still in family hands. It is housed in a nineteenth-century Ardennes farm, adapted for modern brewing installations.
The beer from Lupulus
It started with Lupulus Blonde, but the range has grown considerably since. According to the Belgian Beer Glass Museum, the brewery now also makes dark beer, witbier, pilsner, fruit beer and hoppy beers, plus seasonal beers and alcohol-free versions. The museum also mentions a Lupulus glass of its own.
On Untappd, Brasserie Lupulus is listed as a Regional Brewery in Gouvy, Wallonia. So these are mainly Walloon regional beers with a wide choice of styles, not a brewery that focuses on one style.
