A gypsy brewer from Bucharest
Maktoob Brewing comes from Bucharest, Romania. Untappd lists the brewery as a contract brewery, and a visitor from the local craft beer scene described the brand as the owner of No Room Taproom's own gypsy brew.
That bar in Bucharest is tiny. The writer of Pivoslavija calls it the smallest craft beer bar in Romania, if not in Europe. At the official opening, Maktoob was on tap, alongside eight other local craft beers.
Hoppy beers with an idiosyncratic side
The focus is on IPA, but Maktoob doesn't stop there. A visitor to No Room Taproom drank Harry I've Got An Idea there, a witbier (Belgian white beer) with tarragon and Sichuan pepper to add extra spice to the wheaty, sour citrus note.
The names of the beers also show that recipes are repeated and adjusted: Double Happiness, for example, appears as V7 (Metal Dog) and V8 (Water Pig). The sources give no more about the brewing method or the people behind it.
Maktoob Brewing at Hoptimaal
We had six Maktoob beers in stock: five IPAs and a lager, the Mosaic Pils. They come in 44 cl packaging and range from 5 to 8.2% alcohol. They are currently out of stock, so check the page to see what is available now.
Drink the hoppy beers fresh and cold, so the hops stay at their sharpest. With the stronger ones, closer to 8%, take it a bit easier: take them out of the fridge a few minutes earlier and you'll taste more of the malt and the aromas.
