A name with a legend
St. Hubertus presents itself as an abbey beer with a story that goes back to the year 683. According to the brewery, Hubertus was a nobleman and keen hunter at the time. One morning he came face to face with a white deer with a glowing cross between its antlers. He gave up hunting, chose faith, became a monk and later bishop. In the end he became the patron saint of hunters.
That story is the legend behind the name, not the year the brewery was founded. The site describes the beer as born from the Ardennes soil, steeped in age-old legend and monastic heritage, and rooted in the Belgian brewing tradition.
The beer and the style
St. Hubertus positions its beers as bold and modern, meant for moments with friends, such as a barbecue or a game of pétanque. The range on its own site has five versions: Triple Blond (33 cl and 75 cl), Triple Amber, White and Triple Hop Citra.
On the site, the Triple Amber carries the label Brussels Beer Challenge Gold 2025. The Triple Hop Citra is the hoppy version in the line; the rest stays closer to the classic Belgian styles.
St. Hubertus at Hoptimaal
With us you'll find St. Hubertus as a tripel and as a witbier, both in 33 cl. The strength is between 5.2 and 7.2%. On Untappd, the Triple Blond and the Wit are rated highly.
Serve the witbier well chilled, in a large glass, so the freshness comes through. The tripel can be a little less cold: that brings out the fruity and spicy notes better. Drink them fresh if you can, because that's when they're at their best.
