From a hobby cellar in Arnhem to a garage in Velp
Gert retired as an English teacher and started homebrewing in 2015. In the cellar of his house in Arnhem he experimented with craft beer. His first beer was a strong blonde with ginger: the Gele snor. That beer foamed heavily during brewing and stuck in Gert's moustache, which is where the name of the brewery comes from. The second beer, the Wijze snor, won a prize.
Gert often got help from his neighbour and former student Nick. In 2018 they decided to go commercial. Their regular pub Nescio became the first hospitality customer and liquor store Wijnhuis Sonsbeek started selling the beers. In 2019 Jaap joined and the first steps towards a professional brewery followed. The location became Velp: an old car garage that was completely stripped.
Just good beer, without fuss
De Snor calls itself a brewery without fuss. The beer comes first, with extra attention to pure flavours and the brewer's craft. They work with fresh ingredients and local grains and want to run their business responsibly and sustainably. They skip silly marketing stunts and slick labels. Their own summary: just. good. beer.
If you want to taste on site, the brewery has a taproom. On Saturday there is a Snoravond with free entry from 3 pm. Through their own webshop they sell single bottles, large bottles, gift packs and a tasting box.
