Three brewers in Groede
Dutch Bargain started in 2011 with three brewers: Marc Menue, Stijn Jordans and Thibo Baccarne. In 2000 Marc moved to Groede with his wife Veronique, where he ran into beer brewing. Stijn came into contact with the hospitality trade early on. In December 2011 he and Marc decided to take over Café-Restaurant De Drie Koningen, including a brewing installation on the premises.
Thibo Baccarne is the brewmaster, a native of Antwerp who discovered at fifteen that you can brew beer yourself. When he's not busy with beer, he climbs rocks or surfs the waves. The brewery in the centre of Groede became too small, so the team looked for a new place and found it around the corner: the old municipal school. Dutch Bargain is now at home there, together with Marckensteijn.
Impulsive beers from Zeeland
The motto is Never Dull. According to the brewery itself, it is driven by adventure, experience and quality, and wants to give the worldly beer culture a new dimension from Zeeland. They describe their beers as impulsive and cheeky. According to the founders, new players join the fast-growing beer market every day, so they keep developing to remain among the better brewers.
The core range is called Onze Classics: Zeeuws Blond, Zuidwester, Seawise, Pacific Haze, Designated Dryver, Coastal IPA and Woest.
The brewery also has a taproom, Brouwerslokaal, open seven days a week with thirty taps and a menu with local ingredients and seasonal products.
Dutch Bargain at Hoptimaal
So far we have had ten Dutch Bargain beers at Hoptimaal, almost all in 33 cl. The styles vary: three IPAs, two blonds, a weizen, a tripel, a stout, a pale ale and a bock. The strength ranges from 0.3 to 10%. What exactly is in stock changes, so check the brewery page for the current range.
On Untappd, Dutch Bargain Woest, Dutch Bargain Pacific Haze, Dutch Bargain Coastal IPA, Dutch Bargain Zuidwester, Dutch Bargain Zeeuws Blond and Dutch Bargain Harley's Kiss, among others, are highly rated.
Drink the hoppy beers, such as the IPAs and the pale ale, as fresh and cold as possible. The stout and the bock deserve more time: let them warm up a little after the fridge, so the malty side comes forward better.
