From homebrewing experiments to a brewery of their own in Tartu
The story of Pühaste begins in 2011, when head brewer Eero Mander did his first beer experiments. The brewery grew out of that homebrewing setup and is still independent.
On 10 September 2016, Pühaste opened its own brewery in Tartu, a city regarded in Estonia as a cultural and university centre. The brewery has a taproom at Tähe tn 133c. There you can taste beer and take a tour, where you see and hear how the beer is made.
The beers are not only found in Estonia. Pühaste reports being represented in dozens of countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Finland and Canada.
From lager to barrel aged stout
Pühaste brews widely. According to the brewery itself, the styles range from lagers and IPAs to strong dark beers and wild ales.
The Silver Series is the best known. These are barrel aged beers, and the brewery says they are rated highly by beer lovers all over the world. At Hoptimaal you can see this in the Untappd list. Barrel-aged beers are at the top there, such as Pühaste Sublimis Bourbon BA, Pühaste Moros and Puhaste Melpomene - Bourbon BA.
Pühaste at Hoptimaal
With us you will find a changing range from Pühaste. It includes stouts and IPAs, as well as a porter, a mead, a lager or pilsner and a sour beer. Everything comes in 33 cl, and the strength runs from 5 to 17%. Besides the Silver Series beers mentioned above, Puhaste Dekadents, Puhaste Waking Fantasy and Pühaste Rhapzcallion also score high on Untappd.
Drink the IPAs as fresh as possible and well chilled, so the hops stay sharp. With the heavy stouts and the barrel aged beers, take more time. Take them out of the fridge a bit earlier, pour them into a small glass and let them open up. With that much alcohol, sharing a bottle between two is fine too.
