A beer from Granada named after the Alhambra
In 1925, two Spanish master brewers made a beer meant to capture the taste and character of Granada. They drew inspiration from the Nasrid city and took the name of the Alhambra. According to the brewery, the story began less than two miles from the monument, in Granada itself.
The company's office is now in La Zubia, near Granada. Alhambra has been owned by Mahou San Miguel since 2007. So it is not a small craft brewery: Untappd classes it as a macro brewery.
Lagers and a Spanish bock
According to the brewery, Alhambra uses Spanish malted barley from Navarra, Albacete and Seville, and yeast that always comes from the same strain. The range is broad. Alhambra Reserva 1925 is an amber lager. They also make Alhambra Lager Singular, inspired by classic pilsner lagers, a SIN variant with limited alcohol production and a radler with lemon juice.
Alhambra Reserva Roja is a bock with 7.2% alcohol. During brewing, nugget hops are added by hand to control quantity and timing. Besides roasted barley malt, oats and spring barley go into it. The brewery calls it a Spanish reinterpretation of traditional Central European beers, with a red-copper colour. For the taste, it describes sweet, roasted grains, some ripe white fruit and a bitter counterpart from the hops.

Don't drink it ice cold. Take the bock out of the fridge a quarter of an hour before drinking and pour it into a glass, so the roasted malt and the fruit come out better. The brewery makes the beer for slow drinking and calls it suitable with food.
