From homebrewing to their own brewery
Radical Way Brewing comes from Nicosia, Cyprus. The founders are friends who found each other years ago through metal music. In 2015 they started homebrewing, with their own recipe and all-grain instead of the easier extract brewing. Because there were hardly any homebrew shops in Cyprus at the time, they built their equipment themselves: a large cooler box, a kettle and an olive storage bin. The first beer was an Amber Ale.
Support from the local homebrewing and craft beer scene made the difference. In 2019 Radical Way Brewing officially started. According to an interview from 2023, the small team consists of Vasilis, Manos and Tony. By their own account, the brewery is owned by friends and family and is therefore independent. In 2020 Radical Way released the first Cypriot craft beer in a can.
Nomadic brewing, hops first
Radical Way has no brewery of its own and brews on contract. In 2020 they expanded their reach to Greece, which is now where their beers are brewed. According to the 2023 interview, this happens at Alea Brewing Co. in Athens. The Greek purity law restricts the ingredients and excludes adjuncts. As a result, they dug deeper into DDH NEIPAs, West Coast IPAs, imperial stouts and porters.
Their aim is balance between strength and drinkability: a strong beer you finish without noticing how strong it is. On Untappd you will find, among others, Sunset Vice (West Coast IPA, 6%), Mirage Elixir (hazy IPA, 7%) and Celestial Incubation (DDH double NEIPA, 8.1%). The cans carry artwork and short texts that together form storylines, inspired by music, history, science, horror films and video games. The brewers are also active in metal and skateboarding themselves.
