Kinnegar Brewing in Letterkenny
Kinnegar Brewing is located at K2, Ballyraine Industrial Estate, in Letterkenny in County Donegal. The brewery also opened a new taproom at that location. Kinnegar describes itself as a small brewery on the edge of Europe.
Rick, one of the people behind the brewery, comes from near Boston and moved across the Atlantic Ocean in 1991. Libby Carton is co-owner of Kinnegar and chair of the Independent Craft Brewers of Ireland, the organisation of independent Irish brewers.
Boston Bucket, a lager with American rye
In May 2022, Harpoon Brewery from Boston visited Kinnegar during a European beer trip. After that, the idea for a joint beer came up. Mike Kelly, senior brewer at Harpoon, brewed it together with Rick. The result is Boston Bucket.
Boston Bucket is an Irish-style lager. The lager malt comes from Ireland and was malted by the Malting Company of Ireland. The rye malt comes from Vallet Malting in Hadley, Massachusetts. The beer is clean and crisp, with a subtle rye spiciness. It was brewed for keg only, so not in cans.
