From homebrewery to taproom in Limoilou
Nano Cinco is the project of three amateur brewers. It is the result of years of experimenting and developing recipes. The name refers to the beginning: for more than five years the brewery was a nanobrewery, in other words a homebrewery.
Today Nano Cinco is in the Limoilou district of Québec City, according to BeerAdvocate at 236 3e Rue. You can drink the beers there on the spot or take them home, because the brewery has a taproom and a shop. The space is also used for local and cultural events.
The beer of Nano Cinco
According to the brewery, the focus is on IPAs, sour beers, thirst quenchers, stouts and barrel-aged beers. The system is designed so they can make both commercial volumes and small batches of experimental beers.
You can see those experiments in the beer list on BeerAdvocate. Besides hazy imperial IPAs, it also includes a gose, a kölsch, a helles, a smoked beer and a grodziskie. So the range is broader than just hoppy beers.
Nano Cinco at Hoptimaal
At Hoptimaal we have had 13 beers from Nano Cinco so far. Most of them are IPAs, plus two stouts and a barleywine. The strength runs from 6.5 to 11.9% and the pack sizes vary from 37.5 to 47.3 cl. Highly rated on Untappd are Jacko Dans L'espace, Accroché, Sillage, Innovation #9, Orchid and Gigan, among others.
Drink the IPAs as fresh as possible and well chilled, so the hops stay at their best. The heavier stouts and the barleywine are beers to sip slowly. Take them out of the fridge a quarter of an hour before opening, and the flavours come out better.
