A family brewery in Péruwelz
Brasserie Caulier is in Péruwelz, in Wallonia, on the Rue de Sondeville. Their own website says the brewery has been making its own beers for 30 years. They celebrated that anniversary with open days on 3 and 4 October, with free entry and workshops such as beer and chocolate, using chocolate from Pierre Marcolini.
They mostly describe themselves as a family story: a family that has grown over the years, with people from different professions and backgrounds. Their mission is 'brewing up moments of pleasure'. As values they name a close and caring family, sustainability, uncompromising quality and entrepreneurship. You can also go there for a brewery tour, workshops in the Pico Brewery, events and the guesthouse.
Bon Secours, Paix Dieu and Stuut
According to the brewery itself, Bon Secours, Paix Dieu and Stuut are lively beers with character and 100% natural. They are three separate lines, each with its own tone.
On BeerAdvocate, Paix Dieu is listed as a Belgian tripel of 10%. Bon Secours is broader: a Prestige tripel of 9%, a Brune of 8%, a Tradition of 8% and a Myrtille with fruit of 7%. Stuut is the hoppy line, with Aloha IPA, a Belgian IPA of 6.2%, and Juicy Dolly, a hazy pale ale of 5.8%, among others. So Caulier goes beyond the classic Walloon abbey styles.
Brasserie Caulier at Hoptimaal
We have had four beers from Brasserie Caulier, of which two are in stock right now. They are tripels and a blond, in 33 cl bottles and a 75 cl bottle. The strength ranges from 6 to 10%. The Paix Dieu beers score highest on Untappd, including the Blue Moon 2026 Limited Edition and the Nova.
Don't drink the tripels ice cold. A slightly higher temperature than straight from the fridge lets the spices and the fruit come out better. At 10%, a glass is also something to drink slowly. The 75 cl bottle is good for sharing.
