A brewery named after a seigneur
The brewery is named after Sir John Johnson: officer, civil servant, politician, landowner and seigneur. He was born on 5 November 1741 in Mount Johnson, near Amsterdam in the state of New York, and in the early 19th century he owned the seigneury of Argenteuil. With that name, the brewery links itself to the history of the region, which was colonised by Americans from Vermont, from Jericho to be precise, a small town near Burlington.
You'll find the brewery at Rue Principale 455 in Lachute, in the Laurentians. Next to the brewery is a taproom with a restaurant and a terrace. The kitchen is run by chef Erik Tardif and works with local ingredients.
Independent and inspired by America
Sir John describes itself as an independent, creative and respectful brewery. They look back at the past, but with a contemporary and innovative eye, inspired by the new American brewing tradition. According to Tripadvisor, they brew on site with a modern approach that respects the ingredients.
The sources don't say much more than this, so we're not adding anything. From our own range we know that they brew IPA, at the very least.
Brasserie Sir John at Hoptimaal
At Hoptimaal we have carried one beer from Brasserie Sir John: an 11.5% IPA in a 47.3 cl package. Brasserie Sir John Brûle Bébé Brûle is highly rated by our customers on Untappd. Right now nothing is in stock, so check the page to see whether new beers have been added.
You drink an IPA cool and preferably as fresh as possible, because hoppy beers lose aroma over time. Keep the beer in the fridge and don't wait too long. At 11.5%, this is also a beer to sip slowly, for example from a tulip glass or shared with someone.
