From small batches in San Francisco to three locations
Cellarmaker started in 2013 as a small brewery in San Francisco. They brewed in small batches, one beer at a time. They now have three locations in the Bay Area: San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland. According to the brewery, all of them have an extensive tap list, pizza and wine.
On their website they also announce Pale Ale Palooza, a party for thirteen years of Cellarmaker on 24 October in Berkeley.
A brewing schedule without a fixed line
They find it boring to always make the same three or four beers. They want to get away from a fixed production schedule, so they can keep experimenting with different hops, barrels and yeasts.
You can see that in what they show on their website: hazy IPAs such as Cloudy With A Chance Of Dobis, which is hopped entirely with Citra, and West Coast IPAs such as The Dripping Tap and Cosmic Noon. They also make hazy West Coast pale ales like Moonage Daydream and The Glow, an Abel Tasman New Zealand Pilsner and a smoked coffee porter called Coffee Ciggs. The hops are often listed on the can. For Cosmic Noon those are Strata, Nectaron, HBC 586 and Centennial.
Cellarmaker Brewing Company at Hoptimaal
We have had a barleywine from Cellarmaker in a 37.5 cl bottle: Cellarmaker Works & Days (2024), with 16.4% alcohol. On Untappd this beer is rated highly. We don't have any in stock at the moment, so check the brewery page to see if something new has come in.
Hoppy beers like their IPAs and pale ales are best drunk as fresh as possible and cold. A heavy barleywine like Works & Days is better taken slowly. Take it out of the fridge a quarter of an hour before opening, pour it into a small glass and take your time. At 16.4% it is also well suited for sharing.
