A brewery by the quarries
Brasserie Lefebvre was founded in 1876 in Quenast, according to Wikipedia by Jules Lefebvre. The location was chosen strategically: the brewery was to supply the cafés around the quarries in the region with beer. Quenast lies in the municipality of Rebecq, in Wallonia.
The brewery itself speaks of six generations and calls itself a source of celebrations. It stresses its local roots and independence, and knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation. The slogan on the website reads, loosely translated: a beer to celebrate every occasion.
Barbãr, Hopus and the rest of the range
The best-known beer is Barbãr, a blond beer with Belgian honey and 8% alcohol. Wikipedia describes it as a strong pale ale with honey. Lefebvre also brews Hopus, a strong blond beer that reaches 8.3% according to Wikipedia, and Blanche de Bruxelles Rosée, a light witbier (Belgian white beer) with red fruit.
Under the unplugged label you'll find Ana Hop, a hopped beer that is (nearly) alcohol-free, and Dikkenek Citra Hop, a dry-hopped beer with a Belgo-Belgian slant. The Floreffe abbey beers also belong to the house: Lefebvre has taken care of their production since 1983. That range consists of Blonde, Double, Floreffe Triple and Prima Melior.
Lefebvre at Hoptimaal
At Hoptimaal we have stocked Brasserie Lefebvre Barbãr, in 33 cl and with 8% alcohol. On Untappd it is the highest-rated beer within our Lefebvre range. What is available right now, you can see on the brewery page.
Drink Barbãr cool but not ice-cold, so the aromas have room to come out. It is a strong beer, so pour it into a tulip glass or stemmed glass and take your time with it. If you're looking for a hoppier side of Lefebvre, Hopus and Dikkenek Citra Hop are the beers to look out for. Hoppy beers are best drunk as fresh as possible and well chilled.
