Two beer lovers from Greece
Lefteris Mesimeris and Konstantinos Pougatsias, Lefty and Kostas for short, are the whole team at Seven Island Brewery. Lefteris started out as a homebrewer in his garage in 2009. Kostas set up a small craft beer import business in Greece in 2012. When the two met in 2014, that led to the founding of the brewery.
On Instagram they call themselves a Greek Nomadic Brewery, born and forged in Greece, Corfu and Thessaloniki, with beers they brew all over the world. On Untappd they are listed as a contract brewery, with Corfu as the location. So don't look for them at one fixed brewing site. Citra Crush, for example, comes from the island of Chios according to their own site.
Big, hoppy and aromatic
On their website, Lefty and Kostas say they make big, bold and aromatic beers, with carefully chosen ingredients and exotic additions. Their range is split into series, such as the Theogony Project, Tiki Tales, the Pastry Series and Cyborg hops. They also focus on barrel ageing under the name Mastering the barrels.
One of their flagships is Citra Crush, a New England IPA that they brew and dry hop with 22 grams per liter of Citra BBC. The beer delivers ripe mango and bergamot, with low bitterness and a juicy mouthfeel. The alcohol percentage is 6.5 percent. Island Pils is a nomadic pilsner, dry hopped with Mandarin Bavaria, also at 6.5 percent.
