A local brewery from Greeley
WeldWerks Brewing Co. is in the centre of Greeley, a town of around 104,000 people in northern Colorado. The brewery is locally owned and has existed since 2015. Co-founder Neil Fisher was already brewing at home in his garage years before the idea for WeldWerks came up. Over the years the team has included family, friends and a number of homebrewers from that garage.
Success came quickly. In 2018, Good Beer Hunting wrote that new can releases drew lines lasting hours and sold out the same day, and that after three years the brewery already had gold medals from the Great American Beer Festival hanging on the wall. In 2016, USA Today 10Best named WeldWerks the best new brewery. Several medals at the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup followed.
Hazy IPAs and barrel aged stouts
Best known is Juicy Bits, an IPA that is regarded as one of the highest-rated in America. The Good Beer Hunting writer travelled to Greeley after a few sips of this beer.
On the dark side there is Medianoche, a barrel aged imperial stout that WeldWerks was already brewing before the taproom opened in 2015. The wort is boiled for 36 hours and the stout ages for 18 to 24 months in bourbon barrels. In 2017, Medianoche won gold at the Great American Beer Festival, in the Wood and Barrel Aged Strong Stout category.
Everything is brewed in Greeley, on a 15-barrel and a 30-barrel brewhouse, both with steam heating. According to its own site, WeldWerks made more than 700 different beers in eight years. Their dialed-in approach also comes with strict rules: a batch that doesn't meet the requirements is removed without hesitation.
WeldWerks at Hoptimaal
At our shop you'll find the IPAs from WeldWerks in 47.3 cl packaging, with a strength between 8.5 and 10 percent. On Untappd, WeldWerks The Best Citra and WeldWerks Peel the Thunder are highly rated. The range changes, so check the brewery page to see what's in stock now.
Drink hoppy beers as fresh as possible and cold, so the hop aroma is preserved. Store them in the fridge and check the packaging date. At 8.5 to 10 percent, the glass can warm up a little after a few minutes: then hops and malt sweetness come through better.
