How Azvex began
Azvex Brewing Company is the work of Adam Henderson. In 2015 he founded Neon Raptor Brewing Company, with the aim of making the best beer possible and letting the business grow organically.
During the coronavirus crisis he was able, for the first time in a long while, to step back from the non-stop work of running a brewery. He concluded that the set-up of Neon Raptor and the business relationship with his partners did not work for what he wanted to achieve.
His solution was a new brand with its own brewhouse. He sold his stake in Neon Raptor and has focused entirely on Azvex since. In his first blog post of July 2020, he writes that he will document the set-up of the brewery, so that others who want to start a brewery can learn from it.
An invented name and a hoppy range
The name Azvex is invented: it is not the name of a thing or a place. Henderson chose that on purpose. At his previous brewery, after choosing the name, he received a stream of formal legal notices from large companies and had to rebrand, at a cost he had not budgeted for. An invented name avoids that hassle. On top of that, you find Azvex online straight away, without having to search through results of companies with an ordinary word in their name.
On its own webshop, the brewery divides its range into four categories: hoppy, sour, stout and lager. You see part of that in what we have had from them: mostly IPA, plus stout and sour beer. The beers have striking names, from Peregrine Falcon to Temporal Viewing Device.
Azvex at Hoptimaal
So far we have had 23 beers from Azvex, of which one is in stock at the moment. Twenty of them are IPA, two are stout and one is a sour beer. All come in 44 cl and the strength ranges from 5.4 to 11 percent.
On Untappd, among others, Azvex P(doom)2 - Chocolate, Caramel & Peanut Butter, Azvex Peregrine Falcon, Azvex MANA - Peach, Apricot & Coconut, Azvex Distortion 2, Azvex Temporal Viewing Device and Azvex Lethal Hop Dose: Vial 002 are highly rated.
Drink the hoppy beers as fresh as possible and well chilled, so the hops stay sharp. Store them cool and don't leave them lying around for long. The heavier beers, such as the stouts, you drink more slowly and slightly less cold, so you taste more flavour.
