Three homebrewers from Cornwall
Verdant Brewing Co started in the autumn of 2014. Adam, James and Rich, three homebrewers, wanted to make American-inspired beers that they missed in the local scene. They started small in Falmouth and quickly built a loyal following.
In January 2020, Verdant raised money with a crowdfunding campaign. With it, the brewery moved to a new site in Penryn, which has a custom-built brewhouse developed together with SSV Limited. The brew length is 40 hl and the installation runs three brews within twelve hours.
Verdant calls itself independent and wants to stay that way, so it is free to push boundaries. Besides the brewery, Verdant has its own hospitality venues, including The Taproom and The Seafood Bar.
Hop exploration in juicy and hazy
Verdant is all about hop exploration. The pale ales are at the heart of that: constantly new hop combinations, a clean but full base and the emphasis on drinkability and hop aroma. According to their own site, Lightbulb is their best-selling pale ale.
The IPAs follow the New England style: juicy, hazy and often brewed with oats and wheat for a silky-smooth body. Expect higher alcohol percentages that don't get in the way of the mouthfeel. The double IPAs are the most intense, with a considerably higher dry hop addition and a heavier grist.
Verdant also makes West Coast IPAs, such as the Big Stupid Westy series, and there is a Helles in the permanent range. Collaborations with, among others, Buxton, Basqueland and Birrificio Italiano are listed on BeerMenus.
Verdant Brewing Co at Hoptimaal
At Hoptimaal you will mainly find IPAs and a few pale ales from Verdant, all in 44 cl. The strength runs from 4.8 to 10 percent. Highly rated on Untappd are, among others, Verdant 5AM, Verdant King of May, Verdant The Don 2026, Verdant Brewing Co - Flux: Phase 6, Verdant Under the Same Sky and Verdant Brewing Co - The Doorway Effect. The range changes, so see what is in stock now.
Drink these beers as fresh as possible and cool, around 6 to 8 degrees, so the hops are at their best. The strongest double IPAs can be a bit warmer and slower in the glass, to give the body and the fruity hops time.
