Two founders and a brewery under the station
Sureshot Brewing began with a chance meeting between James Campbell and Michael Forde at IMBC. Campbell was already a well-known name in the British brewing world. Among other places, he brewed at Marble Beers and Cloudwater, and he helped bring new-world styles and hops to the United Kingdom. Forde was part of the management team at Kingsland Drinks, a British supplier of wine and spirits.
According to their own website, Sureshot was founded in 2020 and the first beers came out in February 2022. The brewery and taproom are in the arches under Piccadilly Station. The first brew took place on the day they got the keys: How Much Does Water Weigh, a 4.2% pale ale with Centennial, Galaxy and Citra. In a few years the team grew from two to fifteen people.
Hoppy beers, but also lagers, sours and cask ale
Sureshot is known for hop-forward beers, but brews more widely than just IPA. By their own account they have already made around 160 different beers and more than 10 tonnes of hops have gone through the brewery. Milson is the best known: a New England Pale Ale with Citra, Galaxy and Mosaic on an oaty body. Small Man's Wetsuit is a light pale ale with Idaho 7, Mosaic and Galaxy. Football Friend is a helles with noble hops.
They also brew with others, such as the New England IPA Looks Like Plant Food To Me with Glasshouse. Bless You, Thank You is a gluten-free 4.5% West Coast pale, fully dry hopped with Australian Cascade. Cask ale also comes along, such as the 3.4% dark mild Holding Hands With Trevor. The brewery has a 30 hl brewhouse, eight 30 hl fermenters and a MicroCan canning line with five heads.
Sureshot Brewing at Hoptimaal
At Hoptimaal we had Sureshot 4th Birthday Stout: an 8% stout in 44 cl, highly rated on Untappd. It is currently out of stock, so check the page to see what we have from them right now.
Don't drink an 8% stout ice cold. Around 10–12 °C the flavours come out better and you can take your time with it. If hoppy pales from Sureshot come in, drink those as fresh as possible and well chilled, because that is when the hop aroma is strongest.
